Meet Jim!

Jim Jacobson

CAPE Part-Time Coach

Where are you from, and how did you end up at the U of M?

I am from Rival State. I ended up in Minnesota via, and once I was here, the U of M was clearly the best place to work.

Tell us about your schooling!

I studied Classics, which focuses on the art, society, culture, history, archaeology, and languages of the ancient Mediterranean. It's pretty neat.

Being a part time coach means that you work elsewhere within the U of M. Tell us more about what you do!

I'm a CLA advisor over on Best Bank. Because of the departments housed over there, I see a lot of students pursuing arts-and social science-related interests.

How would you define your role at CAPE, in your own words?

The comedian Mitch Hedberg had a joke about how he bought a jump rope, but it was just a rope -- you have to add the jump yourself. So I . . . hand people . . . rope? Maybe?

What is your favorite type of cereal, and why?

Steel-cut oatmeal. Generally you should stay away from products that are required by law to meta-narrate their function in their name (e.g. "cheese food", "juice drink"), but oat-meal is legit.

What's your favorite thing to do on a day off?

Sleep. Like, I know it's supposed to be something unique, like baking cookies that are shaped like anthropomorphic frogs who are themselves baking smaller cookies. But really, sleep.

What job would you do for free?

Also sleep. So, I got that going for me, which is nice.
